What is HTML?

Hello, today we want to talk about very important and well know topic. It's about HTML. Any web page that you see in your browser is usually created using this language. It is very simple and powerful at the same time.

HTML was created by British scientists from '86 on the '91 year. HTML is a classic hypertext markup language of the Internet. The main task is to tell the browser how to place elements on a Web page and how they should look. HTML was originally created for the delivery of technical documentation and there was no relation to the web sites. But this discovery has outgrown all expectations and has become world famous and the language is used even nowadays.

If you want to create a site, you won't be able to do it without any knowledge of HTML. The knowledge to use all of its functionality will enable you to easily and with a minimum of time to achieve the results that you want to see in your web projects. Also, if you own an existing web site, you will have to know the basics of the language to support your project and correct errors that may occur over time.

The structure of an HTML document contains elements that are placed in special characters called tags. Opening tag, basically, is the same as the ending tag. Also, there may be elements in document that do not contain any information. These tags are mainly used in the formatting. As example, the <br> tag simply moves text to the next line. Accordingly, this item will not have closing tag. Tag names are not case sensitive. If you type a tag with a capital letter then it will not be considered as a mistake. Any HTML document should contain code at the top of the page like the following:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML+RDFa 1.1//EN">

Without this code, it will be very difficult for the browser to display your page. HTML code in the 5th version will look a lot easier:

     <!DOCTYPE html>

Next, the structure should contain a tag indicating the beginning and end of the document by using <html></html> tags. Title for your web page is placed inside of the <head> </head> tags, and the body of the document should be put inside of the <body></body> tags. The <title></title> tag will display the page name in the title bar of your Internet browser. title tag has to be placed between the head tags.

Some elements can have attributes with specific value, such as a body tag may have text attribute. It will look like this:

<body text=”blue”>
<h1> Hi everyone! </h1>

In this case, text "Hello World" will be displayed in blue.

Now, we will show examples of the most popular tags.

<p> - indicates the transition to the new paragraph, the closing tag can be specified if needed;

<h1…h6> - tags that indicate titles, they can be used to pay attention to some of your text;

<br> - new line;

<div></div> - text block indication, also very often used for CSS style modifications;

<span></span> - tag that can be used to specify style for the text line;

Next, you should pay your attention to the tags, which are very convenient to use for the text formatting in the document of your web page.

<I></I> - used to set italic style for a given text;

<b></b> - makes text in bold style;

<s></s> - displays a strikeout text;

<u></u> - makes given text underscored;

<font></font> - tag which is used to specify the font style. It's main task parameters may be the font size - size, font color - color, style - face and others.

Let's look at how images, tables and hyper links can be inserted into our Internet page. In order to be place them in document, enter the following tag:

<img src=url alt="text" title=" text " width="size (px, %)" height="size (px, %)">

And here are explanations to all options in order:

src  - specifies name or url of the picture;
alt  - the name of the picture that you will see if the browser can not download the file;
title  - the name of the image that is displayed when you hover the mouse cursor over file;
width - indicates the width of the element;
height - and the height;

To display the table, enter a tag:

<table></ table > - tag that creates a table;

<tr></ tr > - is a row;

<tr></ tr > - is a cell;

If you want to insert the link into your Internet page, it can be done as in the example:

<a href="filename" target="_top">description of the link as it has to be shown on the page</a>

href="filename" - the address of the link to go;

target="_top - the window parameter that instructs how to open your link, in this case _top tells to open the link in the current window. Default _self parameter is opening the document in the current frame;

So, we have shown you what is the HTML, where it can be used and what are the features. Also, we learned how to create a simple structure of the document, format text, insert images, links and tables. We hope that you will like this article and it will be helpful.
